So here it is..
This is the beginning of my blog. I am reminded of a quote I heard once... "Almost everything comes from nothing." Henry F. Amiel. This is a blog dedicated to those women who wake up one day realizing they have no idea how to be a housewife among other things. No one ever taught me how to take care of house or how to do laundry! I remember calling my father in college asking him how to do laundry. I had never even attempted this before. He gave me one thing as advice: “Wash in cold…You can’t screw it up then!” I was very thankful for this advice because he always did my laundry when I was growing up or visited. The main point of this blog is for those who care to read to see the up’s and downs of learning to be a homemaker in the 21st century. In the earlier years women were taught how to take care of their husbands and what to do to be proper. This is no longer the case. I love feminism and being a prideful woman but I wish I would have paid a bit more attention to my parents! I never understood how fast dishes pile up or just how much dusting there is around the house. I have a new found appreciation for those who take care of a home. You sit one thing down and your house is a mess. I have no idea how this all happens quickly!
I am learning as we go how to cook as well. I never took the time to learn my mother’s southern cooking recipes or my father’s meatloaf. I hated anything to do with the kitchen! Thank goodness my fiancée is a fantastic cook. I did light the stove on fire making rock candy once…. I am a terrible cook. I cannot even microwave! My Fiancée Mark’s favorite story to tell is how I tried to make chicken pot pie… I forgot the cream of chicken soup and we ended up eating chicken pot cake! He once said that would be his last meal so god would take mercy on him. That’s just how bad my cooking is. Last week Mark bought me a cookbook and challenged me to try to cook. We will see how this works out.
Now this is just not a blog about cooking and cleaning... I am also planning a wedding. Who knew so much goes into planning a wedding? Not only am I planning a wedding… I am planning a wedding from across the country! We live in Texas and the wedding is in Media, PA. To think planning a wedding isn’t stressful already? Of course to top it all off I am in Grad school full time and working full time. :) I hope you enjoy reading along with me in these adventures. I am starting from knowing nothing about cleaning, cooking, blogging and wedding planning…. And just hoping something will come from all of it!
